Community Action Council for Lexington-Fayette, Bourbon, Harrison, and Nicholas Counties is a member of the Community Action Partnership, a national organization representing the interests of the over 1,000 community action agencies across the country that fight poverty on the local level. The Council's fundamental belief is that all people in the community are connected. If the challenges faced by low income people are addressed and they have the same opportunities enjoyed by the majority of the community, then the quality of life for the entire community is improved. The Council is dedicated to combating poverty by offering opportunities for low income people to achieve self-sufficiency and providing services so that each community member and family is able to reach their full potential. The Council works to serve the low income population through advocacy, service delivery and community involvement. |

The Council realizes the factors affecting poverty vary from neighborhood to neighborhood, and community to community. Community Action Council takes a holistic approach, offering comprehensive services with measurable results. The Council provides services out of 6 neigborhood centers in Lexington-Fayette County, and through similar community centers in Bourbon, Harrison and Nicholas counties. Each neighborhood and community center has a core set of available services that form the base for the center's activities. Beyond the core services, each center, with a local advisory council seeks to identify and address its particular local needs. The needs may be met through the partnerships and collaborations that the Council forms with other local organizations. That combination of approaches offers the greatest opportunity to realize the power of human possibility. |
